Important Notice

Tomorrow I will be unable to post due to it being Tuesday.

Important Notice:

It pains us to send this, but Steve "Notch" Willingham died while on a strange island. He was found in his apartment. His journal will be published and deciphered.

-James III

Publisher.

New Beginnings:

It seems our little fellow didn't make it out of the dungeon... But, this blog shall continue!

When new Minecraft news comes out, we will be one of the firsts to post it!

Getting The Rest Of Zombe:

The Zombe mod is much more complex than just flying. In Steve "Notch's" journal it said to download Zombe fly mod. This is a good step. Once you install Zombe's fly mod, you won't have to do the dirty work like opening the minecraft.jar file with 7zip or WinRAR. Which is a pain.

There's lots more mods than just flying. You can do death mods which alters the effects of death in your game, or info mod which tells you the biome you're in.

Here's the tutorial for installing it. I hope to have a video tutorial soon.

1. Go to windows, start and search "%appdata%" without quotations.

2. Click on Roaming then click on .minecraft.

3. Open up the "bin" folder.

4. Create a new folder called "backup"

5. Copy and paste the minecraft.jar file in "backup" about five times, leaving one in the "bin" folder.

6. Go back to .minecraft and select the folder "mods"

7. Click on "zombe"

8. Open the "config.txt" folder.

9. Scroll down to your mod of choice and get rid of the bold and underlined "#" in this example:

(example): # Uncomment to enable mod:
#modCloudEnabled          = yes

Then you'll have that mod enabled. Go through the list of mods to see which ones you like. Remember to look at the controls.

Day Nine

Now on weekends, there will be no blogging.

Day Nine:

I prepared myself for what I was about to do... I was going to fly today. I bought a book* called Zombe's Fly Mod. Which I assume will teach me to fly.

-Later:

Step one is to buy*1 Zombe's Mod Installer. So I bought*1 it. I had "run it as a administrator" and then I selected my options. I went for the slowest speed, fast enough to explore, slow enough to build.

I then tested out my flying. It was amazing! I soared above the trees and saw things I couldn't see from the ground.

-Later:

Now that I can easily build high, I added the stone stairs to the roof of my house to make a pyramid-looking roof. I then made a fence gate, so that I can easily come and go from my porch, and not have to worry about monsters.

-Night:

Today was a good day. Tomorrow I plan to explore the dungeon now that I can fly.

What Does This Mean?

*= "Book" in this sentence is the free program Zombe Mod. It allows flight and several other features.

*1= "Bought" is not literal in this sentence. Zombe Mod Installer is a free program to install the Zombe Mod. You must run the installer as an administrator.

How to run and install Zombe: first, download Zombe Mod and Zombe Mod Installer off the Internet. The programs themselves are completely safe, but you want to be careful where you get them from. Then, after the programs are installed, right-click on Zombe Mod Installer and select "run as administrator." If you cannot do this, you're basically screwed. So get the computer administrator to help you run the program. Then select your speed. I recommend the lowest, since it is fast enough and great for building. Then select the key you want to activate fly mode. Space is not a good one, since when you jump you'll activate fly mode. I like "f" to activate fly mode, "t" to incline, and "g" to descend.

fence gate: used to go in places. Cannot be jump over. Unlike doors, fence gates cannot be opened with a left click, only right clicks. Made by putting two wooden planks in the first two (lower) sections of the middle column of the crafting table, then wooden sticks on either side of them.

Day Eight

Day Eight:

I set out for the Islands of Dread again. When I got to the portal, I was whisked back to my home there.

I was welcomed back, then I set out to hunt some heads for people that had raided my clan's base. I found one, and swiftly shot him with an arrow. He came running with a stone sword, but my diamond was stronger, and I received his belongings.

I then proceeded to walk to the city I live near, but was shot. I looked around and saw no one. I kept walking until I received heavy damage from behind. I then quickly warped home to heal.

After my day there, I learned that a bow is a quick and easy way to deplete enemy health before finishing them off with a sword.

I also learned that warping home before death is a great way to prevent losing your stuff.

-Later:

I returned to the mainland. I then chopped some wood and made sticks. Then I sheered some sheep with my shears and got wool. With those, I made paintings.

I then got sugarcane and made paper, which I used for books. I then took the books and made bookshelves.

I placed one of the bookshelves near my enchantment table and saw that I gained more enchantments from placing a bookshelf near an enchantment table.

-Night:

I am glad I helped defeat one of my clan's many enemies. I also am glad with my new home. Tomorrow I will learn how to fly, hopefully.

What Does This Mean?

arrow: used for ammunition for bows. Dropped by skeletons or made with flint, a stick, and a feather; all in a column.

flint: dropped by granite blocks.

feather: dropped by chickens.

bow: used for ranged attacks. Made by putting three stings in the (your) right column of the crafting table, then putting two sticks on the bottom and top of the middle, then finally putting a stick in the middle of (your) left column.

shears: used for getting wool off sheep without killing them. Made by putting two iron ingots diagonally to each other.

paintings: made by putting sticks in a square in your crafting table then a piece of wool in the middle of the square.

paper: made by putting three sugarcanes in a  row.

bookcase: used to add enchantments to enchantment tables if placed up, down, or sideways to a bookshelf. Made by putting three books in the middle row, and wooden planks everywhere else.

Day Seven

Tomorrow I will be unable to post due to American holiday Thanksgiving.

Day Seven

Before I departed to the Nether again, I decided to brew a potion.

I took water from my cauldron and filled a glass bottle with water. I then took the water bottle and brewed it with a glistering melon to make a potion of healing. I am now ready for my second journey into the Nether.

-Later:

I discovered two new mobs. A blaze is a machine looking mob that drops blaze rods. It explains where I got the rod yesterday to make my Brewing Station.

They shoot fireballs at me to harm me, but they aren't as dangerous as a zombie pigmen pack.

I also discovered a magma cube. It is a strange creature that breaks into smaller versions of itself.

-Later:

I returned to my home, and looked at how dull looking it is.

I chopped some trees for wood, then made tons of fences. I then took the fences and made a front porch around my home, and replaced the dirt inside my fence with cobblestone. I then took two wooden planks and placed them on either side of the door. I put a wooden fence on top of the planks, then made stairs. I put the stairs on top of the fence, then put a plank in between each stair.

-Night:

My house looks much better now. I can sleep even better with it look so dashing. Tomorrow I plan to decorate it further, and visit my friends at the Island of Dread again.

What Does This Mean?

cauldron: holds water for potion brewing. Made by putting iron ingots on the right and left columns of the crafting table, and then put one on the bottom in between the two lines.

glass bottle: made by putting glass into a V shape on the crafting table.

water bottle: made by putting water into a glass bottle.

potion of healing: made by putting an awkward potion with a glistering melon.

awkward potion: made by putting a Nether Wart with a water bottle.

Nether Wart: a plant found in the Nether.

glistering melon: used in potions. Made by putting a gold nugget with a melon slice.

gold nugget: dropped by zombie pigmen.

fence: made by filling the bottom and middle column of the crafting table.

stairs: made by putting wooden plank in a descending order starting with (your) left.

Day Six

Day Six:

I mined some obsidian for my portal. I put three obsidian blocks on the bottom and top, and four of the sides. Then I took flint and steel and lit the middle block. Wow! It shone with purple brilliance. It looked so ominous. I shall go inside.

-Later:

I have gone to the Nether. I first landed in the middle of a hot soil. Lava was below me everywhere. Some zombie-pigmen were traveling in packs. When I attacked one, the whole pack started attacking me. I barely escaped. I then walked a small distance and heard a strange sound. Like that of a baby laughing. I looked and saw a giant white floating spirit. I then attacked it and, it let out an awful scream. It still rings in my ears. I named then Ghasts

-Later:

I decorated my home further. I also built an enchantment table and enchanted all my belongings. Now I do tons of damage with my sharpened diamond blade.

-Later:

I also built a brewing station to make potions.

-Night:

Tomorrow I plan to explore the Nether further. I am also going to make some potions.

What Does This Mean?

obsidian: a rare occurring block. It is easily obtained by putting water on top of lava or vice versa.

flint and steel: used to set things on fire. Crafted by putting steel in the left slot on the middle column of your crafting table. Put flint in the middle of the crafting table.

zombie-pigmen: a neutral mob that usually travels in packs. When one is attacked, the whole mob attacks.

Ghasts: a mob that spits fireballs when you are nearby.

enchantment table: used to enchant items with experience points.

brewing station: used to brew potions that serve several purposes. Crafted by putting three cobblestone bricks on the bottom row of your crafting table, and one blaze rod in the middle.

Day Five

Happy 1.0, everyone! Minecraft is officially out of BETA testing! Woohoo!

-My bad:

I made a mistake in the Day Four post. There I said Strongholds are monster infested areas. Strongholds, in actuality, are ruins and are quite friendly. Dungeons are monster infested areas, and I am sorry for the mistake.

Day Five:

I have come across a strange relic on one of the Island of Dread*. It is asking for a "server address." I found a piece of wood saying "pvp.6SidedWorld.Com," so I wrote that on the relic. I was transported to a heavily populated area!

Once there, I was greeted by many friendly people. I went to a remake of the city of Rome looking for a home. There, a fellow named Cashmoney11332 invited me to live with him. So I shared a hotel room with him.

Then I mined with him. He gave me an excellent pick, so we mined and mined. Then he got tired and went back to his own land, so I explored the new land I found myself in, made a home on the outskirts of a fantastic city called Sky City, whose walls are protected by archers unseen. I made a house in Sky Burst village (that is what I call it, but the village has no official name).

Afterwards, I went back to my own land.

-Later:

I came upon a village. It was empty. Or so I thought. A villager with a particularly long nose came out of a house. He didn't speak, so I moved back to my home.

-Later:

I finally found a wolf! I tamed it with the bones of a skeleton I hunted. It follows me everywhere. Then if I am to hunt or to be attacked, it goes after the attacker in a savage show of strength and loyalty to me.

- Night:

I found myself to not be alone after all. I shall visit that other land tomorrow and then I shall make a portal to the Nether. Which I found the instructions to in a book in the village.

What Does This Mean?

*: This is, in actuality, the Multiplayer menu in the main menu.

pvp.6SidedWorld.Com: an excellent family-friendly PVP server.

villager: an NPC that roams villages.

NPC: non-playable-character. Known as mobs.

portal to the Nether: a way to get to the Nether.

Nether: a place with lava, unfriendly mobs and more.

Day Four

I would like to say again, that I will not be able to post this weekend (November 19-20th).

I will put up a message tomorrow to remind you guys.

Day Four:

This island is very relaxing now that I have a good home. I miss my telly, though... Oh well.

Today, as I said, I plan to look for a new friend. I am setting off now, so wish me luck!

-Later:

Sadly, I didn't find any wolves or dogs. Though I did  learn that there are no cows in this part of Du Weldenvarden*. Only chicken and sheep. The landscape of this part of Du Weldenvarden* is very hilly. Unlike the thick pine forest of the east.

I learned a lot today. I learned that this island has a swamp to the far, far south. I have divided regions of this land:

South: Swamps of Allagoria

East: Pine Forests of Du Weldenvarden*

West: Cliffs of Clardera

North: Islands of Dread

The north is the Islands of Dread because there are no trees or animals. If I landed on one of those islands, I would surely be dead.

I also mined some cobblestone while I was away. I made a furnace, so now I can smelt iron and (finally!) cook the meat I found.

-Later:

Oh no! No! I explored the hole I found, and it was a Stronghold, a place where monsters thrive. I died there and respawned in my home. But, to my deepest sadness, my armor was gone! As well as all my other belongings not in my chest...

It is still light, so I am going to take a stroll on the Cliffs of Clardera.

-Later:

The Cliffs of Cladera are more promising than they appear. For, I made a pick and sword before I left and, thankfully, found iron ore! I smelted them into iron ingots and made even stronger iron armor!

This island is prosperous, but I am feeling lonely. Perhaps I will look for human life in another one of these
islands.

-Night:

Ah, the comfort of my home. For it feels like home. Tomorrow I plan to search for other life on the Islands of Dread.

What Does This Mean?

wolves: can be tamed with bones from Skeletons. Take at least ten if you find a wolf pack. Wolves will attack mobs and make hunting easier. They're condition is determined by their tail, and they can be fed to feel better.

furnace: can be used to smelt ores into ingots, or to cook meat. To power a furnace, put anything made of wood on the bottom slot of the furnace menu, and put what you wish to cook/smelt on the top. To craft a furnace: put eight cobblestone blocks in a square on the edges of your crafting table, leaving the middle blank.

Stronghold: is an area (usually a cave) full of monsters and other dangers. Usually there lies a treasure somewhere in it, but it is guarded heavily by monsters.

iron ore: can be mined from blocks that look like cobblestone with gold specks on it.

iron ingots: are made by putting iron ore in the furnace (see furnace for directions). Iron ingots can be used for many, many purposes; including making better armor.

Day Three

I would like to announce that I will not be blogging on the weekends.

Day Three:

Every day on the island is getting easier. I've named the sheep around my home. I also curiously found a pumpkin behind my home, so I made a Jack-O-Lantern with it, and put it beside the sign I crafted.

I am going east today. I found that there are many cows, and that I can make stuff from the leather they drop. I plan to make armor today.

-Later:

I have discovered that this, like the true Du Weldenvarden from my favorite book, is a place of thick forest and beauty. Towering trees are like skyscrapers. Among them, are their citizens: the cows. I hate to kill them, but the armor they provide is a necessity. Plus, I have their meat to eat.

-Later:

I have done the deed. I have enough leather to make a leather helmet, pants, and boots. I also have discovered cobblestone, which I mined. I planned to use it for the decorative flooring of my home.

It is truly an island I am stuck on, because I went south in my absence, and the land stops for a dropping ocean cliff. Though this may be an island, it is paradise. I have come to appreciate the beauty of this place. I hope to find something to keep me company. I wonder if there are dogs or wolves on this island. Perhaps I could tame one...

-Night:

I laid down the cobblestone, and I must say, it adds great detail to this place. In the absence of my writing, I also made paintings to put on my wall. This home is looking quite well, if I do say so myself.

Tomorrow I plan to look for a new best friend, and explore a strange hole I found.

What Does This Mean?

Jack-O-Lantern: provides better light than a torch. Craft it by putting a pumpkin in your crafting table, and a torch above it.

armor: provides extra "health" armor points along with your hearts. It can be made from leather, iron, gold, and diamond.

helmet (see armor): is crafted by putting leather, iron, gold, or diamond in an upside down U shape on the top of your crafting table. The two side lines of the U end in the middle of the 3*3 board.

pants (see armor): are crafted by putting leather, iron, gold, or diamond in an upside down U shape on the top of your crafting table. The two side lines of the U end on the bottom of the 3*3 board.

boots (see armor): are crafted by putting leather, iron, gold, or diamond in two lines on the left and right side of the crafting table. Both lines end in the middle line of the crafting table.

cobblestone: a mined materiel that can be used as a block anywhere. Mine it from any plain grey block. Great for adding decoration to the floor of your home.

paintings: adds decoration. It will be a random painting when you put it on the wall. Crafted by putting sticks in a square around the crafting table board and wool in the middle of the square.

Day Two

Welcome back to Minecarting! If you didn't view yesterday, here's what you missed:

Our little guy has landed on a mysterious new land and has built a home on it. He has also built several things for his home so that he may have some comforts.

Also: there is a contest to name our "little guy!" Please send your name (just first) and name entry to minecarting@gmail.com!

Day Two:

I couldn't sleep last night. Mainly because I didn't have a bed... But I will take care of that problem today. I plan to build a second story to my home, make a bed, and maybe explore the surrounding area today.

-Later:

I have gathered the wooden planks from the trees to add a second floor to my home very fast with my new axe. It will be the same length as the first floor and three blocks tall.

-Later:

I have finally built the second story. It is extremely dark in my home, hopefully I can find some torches. I encountered a problem: I am stuck on the second floor. I'll have to jump down and craft a ladder.

Okay, I crafted the ladder. So now I can go between my floors with ease. I have some six wooden planks leftover, so I crafted a door. I punched out two blocks from my first floor and put the door where they were. Now I can cover my underground tunnel, and I don't have to worry if a Creeper blows up the ground and is able to sneak in my tunnel.

-Later:

I killed a few sheep to get three wool blocks. I made a bed from the wool and wooden planks. Now I can sleep at night. On the second floor, of course.

-Later:

I explored the area surrounding my home, and discovered many strange caves. One had coal blocks that I mined with my pick, so now I can make torches to light my home with. Some of the caves, though, have monsters in them. So I must avoid those.

I think I am on an island... There is water to the east and west of my home...

-Night:

Ah, at last I can sleep... I write this in my new bed... It is very comfortable. So let me write what I plan to do tomorrow before I fall asleep:

I plan to further decorate my home and explore this island.

What Does This Mean?

axe: allows you chop wood faster. Crafted by putting two wooden sticks in the middle of the crafting table then putting three wooden planks in a right angle to your left at the top.

ladder: allows you to go between floors or scale heights. Crafted by putting sticks into an H on your crafting table.

door: allows you to make an entrance without fear of mobs walking in on you. Crafting by putting wooden planks in all the (your) left and middle slots of your crafting table.

bed: allows you to skip night. For use on top floors of homes only, if used on bottom floors, your sleep will be interrupted by mobs. Crafted by putting wooden planks across the bottom row of your crafting table and wool across the middle.

pick: allows you to break rock blocks faster. Also allows you to mine resources from the rock blocks. Crafted by putting sticks in the two lower middle slots of the crafting table and wooden blocks across the top.

Welcome To MineCarting!

Hello everyone! I'm Nick, creator of many websites, including the worldwide read blog Crux Crutch.

Since LEGO Universe is closing, I've taken an interest in a new game, Minecraft.

Minecraft is the ultimate sandbox build-your-own-world-from-nothing game! You can also make tons of different stuff! So, here's how this blog is going to work:

1. We'll start with my little character's journal. I'll write what he did on a certain day.

2. I'll boldface words of interest in his journal.

3. Then I will explain to you what those words are and how to craft them at the end of the post.

Let's get started!

Day One:

It's rather odd. One moment, I was sitting at home watching television, then the next: poof! Here I am on this island...

After my initial shock, I took a look around. Trees, sheep, and chickens. I couldn't have landed in a better place without any supplies but my now useless telly remote.

I decided I needed a house. I don't particularly care for camping. So I started chopping (or punching rather) a tree for wood. Then, when I had enough, I crafted it into wooden planks, since I get four of those per block of wood.

After I had enough wood, I built a wall seven by six blocks wide and three blocks tall. After my wall was up, I covered the third story with a roof. Leaving but one block out in the middle so I may judge the time.

I then made a tunnel to get out of my home since I don't have a door. I then chopped/punched some more wood to make a crafting table and some sticks.

-Night:

It's rather frightening at night. I hear footsteps and they are not the sheep's. I peeped outside and saw a horrible sight: zombies, skeletons, and strange green creatures with three legs that I call Creepers walk this land at night. I'm glad I made a house.

I put my crafting table down in my home. I then took the a stick and leftover wooden planks to make a wooden sword. It worked!

Tomorrow I am going to add a second floor to my home, make a bed so I may sleep, and more.

What Does This Mean?

"chopping (or punching rather) a tree for wood:" holding the right mouse button down over a block of wood until it breaks. You should get a block of wood from the tree block.

wooden planks: a materiel made from wood. Just put any wood into your crafting slot in your inventory and ,viola, there is four wooden planks! Great for making homes.

crafting table: allows you to craft on a three by three grid instead of two by two. Make it by putting four wooden planks in the crafting slot.

sticks: used for makings swords, axes, picks, hoes, arrows and tons of other useful recipes. Make it by putting two wooden planks in the crafting slot.

zombies: a dangerous mob.

skeletons: these mobs have bows for ranged attacks. They are not friendly.

Creepers: these mobs blow up any surroundings when near you.

wooden sword: used to deal extra damage to mobs. Useful for hunting sheep, chicken, or any living organism. Make it by putting one stick in the lower middle slot of your crafting table, and two wooden planks above it.

I hope you guys will come tomorrow for more great tips, and see if the little guy survives his second day in his new home.
